Cellulaze
Cellulite is a structural problem beneath the surface of the skin and is caused by factors that are often beyond our control. This makes it difficult to be effectively addressed through diet and exercise. Aging, hormones, genetics and weight changes can all play a role in the appearance of cellulite. All of these factors can cause the connective bands beneath the skin’s surface to stiffen. These fibrous bands ultimately enable the surrounding fat cells to become enlarged and push up into the skin. This creates the “cottage cheese” look that so many individuals strive to eliminate. For individuals with thin skin, this look is even more prominent.
What is Cellulaze?
Cellulaze is a cellulite treatment that can help patients suffering with dimpled, uneven and puckered skin. It is a minimally invasive, laser assisted procedure that works on several levels to thicken and add elasticity to the skin while releasing the fibrous bands beneath the surface and reducing the bulging fat that projects between the bands. One treatment with Cellulaze can offer patients dramatic cellulite reduction.

What are the Benefits of the Cellulaze Procedure?
Cellulaze patients often pursue surgery in order to correct a number of issues including dimpled, uneven and puckered skin on the inner and outer thighs and buttocks.
Like the thousands of women who undergo this procedure every year, you too can acquire the smooth, even skin you’ve always wanted, and gain the confidence you deserve.
Am I a candidate for a Cellulaze procedure?
The ideal candidates for a Cellulaze procedure are healthy women who have realistic expectations of surgical outcomes. You may be a good candidate for Cellulaze if you are not significantly overweight but suffer with mild to moderate cellulite. Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Barr is the best way to determine your candidacy for cellulite reduction treatments.
Preparation for Cellulite Reduction Surgery
The first step when considering Cellulaze treatment is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Barr. The consultation process provides an opportunity for you to obtain important information about the procedure and to have all of your questions answered prior to proceeding with surgery. It also enables Dr. Barr to properly assess you and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for plastic surgery for cellulite.
You should be prepared to discuss your medical history, including any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries, all current medications, as well as any significant weight gain or loss.
During your consultation Dr. Barr will carefully examine your areas of concern and assess your general health. The benefits, risks and potential complications associated with the Cellulaze procedure will be thoroughly explained during this consultation. The areas of your cellulite will be mapped and a detailed plan for your corrective procedure will be provided. The information provided at this initial consultation will be comprehensive and thorough, and should enable you to make an informed decision as to whether or not cellulite reduction treatment is the right choice for you.
How is Cellulite Reduction Performed?
Cellulaze surgical cellulite treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure at Barr Plastic Surgery. The length of the treatment depends entirely on the size of the area being treated, and will be determined during consultation.
Prior to treatment Dr. Barr will use a marker to indicate the areas of cellulite to be treated, the areas of bulging fat to be reduced and the skin region to be tightened. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the cellulite removal procedure may be done under local anaesthetic, a neurolept or under general anesthetic for larger areas. A very small cannula containing a laser fiber is then inserted into the marked areas and energy is delivered directly underneath the skin. This releases the fibrous bands that cause the “cottage cheese” appearance of cellulite, while simultaneously increasing the thickness and quality of your skin. The laser is then used to diminish the lumpy pockets of fat that protrude through the fibrous bands under your skin.
Recovery After Cellulite Reduction
Dr. Barr’s extensive experience in performing cellulite reduction procedures will help to ensure that your post-operative recovery is minimized. Following your Cellulaze procedure you will experience some bruising and discomfort. You may notice a small amount of fluid leaking from the incision sites and you will be placed in a compression garment in order to decrease post operative bruising and swelling. Most patients are able to return to work within a few days and resume regular activities within two weeks. Your progress will be monitored by Dr. Barr through a series of follow up appointments at regular intervals.
