What is Renuvion J-Plasma®?

You are likely familiar with the word “plasma”. Plasma is a form of matter created by energizing gas to the point of ionization, i.e. its atoms and molecules separate into negatively charged electrons and positively charged ions. Renuvion J-Plasma® is formed by passing inert helium gas through a device, energizing the gas into a plasma stream which can be used for medical aesthetic purposes. First utilized as a means of soft tissue coagulation during surgery with minimal impact to surrounding tissue, this technology is now being recognized for its benefits in facial rejuvenation procedures.

Dr. Barr utilizes Renuvion J-Plasma® Transformational Helium Plasma technology to create skin tightening and cellular rejuvenation for overall remarkable facial rejuvenation. Renuvion J-Plasma technology has the ability to ablate tissue at a low, controlled temperature with minimal disruption to the surrounding tissue, which hastens the recovery time associated with traditional non-fractional ablative C02 laser treatments.

With the highly precise nature of Renuvion J-Plasma technology, patients have the option of treating either their full face, or targeting specific trouble spots, such as their eyes or mouth area. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I require any preparation before my procedure?
A pre-treatment skin care regime will be recommended for you approximately 4 weeks prior to your procedure. These products will assist your skin in preparing for the treatment, as well as enhance your treatment results. Nicotine, as well as certain medications must be avoided prior to treatment. A list of these medications will be provided to you during your consultation with Dr. Barr.

How much recovery time is required?
As healing time is accelerated by J-Plasma’s ability to target the treatment areas with extreme precision, many patients are able to begin wearing make up by 10 days and return to work by 14 days. Traditional ablative treatments require upwards of 2 weeks healing time.

Will I need to stay overnight at Barr Plastic Surgery?
Renuvion J-Plasma® Skin Rejuvenation is performed as an outpatient procedure, and an overnight stay at the facility is not required.

Treatment Instructions

Pre-Treatment
Cleanse your face as instructed the night before and the day of your surgery with the recommended facial cleanser.

Do not apply any makeup, cream, or sunscreen on the day of your procedure.

Your J-Plasma treatment will be done under “conscious sedation” or a general anaesthetic.

• Do not eat for at least 6 (six) hours before your procedure time.
• You can drink a small amount (250 ml / one cup) of clear fluids up to 4 hours before your procedure. (water / apple juice / ginger ale)

Any medications that you were advised to take should be taken only with a small sip of water.

Post-Treatment
Our team of medical aestheticians, along with our experienced nursing staff, will assist Dr. Barr in the ongoing post treatment of your skin care. This will include regular assessments of your skin and review of recommended post treatment protocols. Medical aesthetic staff will be in regular communication with you to ensure that your healing is optimized. After the healing is completed and fresh new skin has been revealed, customized products, sunscreens and mineral makeup will be provided to optimize results, protect your skin and ensure you are comfortable settling back into your normal routine.

You will be given follow up appointments every second day for the first week following your procedure, tapering off to weekly, and then monthly for the first 3 months.

* Please note: Those patients who reside a significant distance from Sudbury, may chose to stay with a close friend or family for the first week following their treatment, or book accommodations that offer economical suites with suitable space and a kitchenette.
