Buttock LiftMany patients find that age, genetics, lack of exercise, and significant weight loss have an effect on the contours of their backside, causing it to appear less shapely. Many patients complain of a sagging or drooping buttocks, coupled with a dimpled appearance. Patients who have recently lost a large amount of weight may also notice excess skin on their waist line that affects the shape of their bottom. For many patients, a ” butt lift” can help to lift their backside along with improving the contours of both the waist and buttocks.

Preparing for Your Buttock Lift Procedure
What is the first step in my buttock lift procedure? The first step when considering buttock lift surgery is to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Barr. The consultation process provides an opportunity for you to obtain important information about the procedure and to have all of your questions answered prior to proceeding with surgery. It also enables Dr. Barr to properly assess you and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for buttock lift surgery. You should be prepared to discuss your medical history, including any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries, all current medications, as well as any significant weight gain or loss. During your consultation Dr. Barr will carefully examine your areas of concern and assess your general health. Different surgical approaches and options will be discussed and he will explain which surgical approach would be best suited to you based on your individual characteristics and aesthetic goals. The benefits, risks and potential complications associated with buttock lift surgery will be thoroughly explained during this consultation. The information provided at this initial consultation will be comprehensive and thorough, and should enable you to make an informed decision as to whether or not a buttock lift procedure is the right choice for you. A comprehensive instruction package will be provided to you at the time of consultation, and includes instructions for both before and after surgery.
Am I a candidate for a buttock lift procedure? The ideal candidates for a buttock lift procedure are healthy patients who have realistic expectations of surgical outcomes. You may be a good candidate for a buttock lift if you have one or more of the following conditions:
- loose, sagging skin with extra fat in your buttocks
- recent dramatic weight loss
- maintain a steady weight
- your buttock area makes you feel self-conscious
- If the excess skin and sagging cause discomfort or mobility issues
What is the difference between a Buttock Lift, a Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Enhancement?Excess skin and fat in the gluteal region can be improved with a buttock lift. A buttock lift procedure involves removing excess skin and fat through surgical excision. This provides a more shapely contour to the backside. Rather than lifting and smoothing out the buttocks, the Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Enhancement procedures add volume to the buttocks. The Brazilian Butt Lift adds volume using fat transfer, while Buttock Enhancement usually provides volume using gluteal implants.
Can I combine another surgery with my buttock lift procedure? It may be possible to schedule another surgery at the same time as your buttock lift procedure. Many patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight combine their buttock lift procedure with a waist reduction procedure, which will remove excess skin from the midsection, provide lift to the buttocks, and improve your body contours. You should be prepared to discuss all possibilities during your consultation with Dr. Barr.
What will I need to do prior to surgery?Prior to surgery you will be scheduled for a pre-op session with a Registered Nurse to review your medical history and your post-op instructions. She will review all of the information you will need to know in order to prepare yourself for surgery.
Where will my buttock lift procedure be performed?Your procedure will be performed within the state-of-the-art facilities of Barr Plastic Surgery, located within the Northern Ontario Surgical Centre. The Northern Ontario Surgical Centre has been awarded accreditation by the CAAASF (Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities) for meeting the standards of a hospital in regards to monitoring, emergency and resuscitation equipment. With two levels and entrances that conceal the actual size of the facility, the centre itself spans 8000 square feet and incorporates fully equipped major and minor operating rooms, a monitored multi-bed recovery area, 10 laser and treatment rooms, spacious consultation areas, private offices to discuss financing options, elegant waiting areas and a private waiting room and secure rear entrance/exit for additional privacy when desired.
How is a buttock lift procedure performed?A buttock lift is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anaesthesia. There are several techniques that may be used to achieve the look you desire. The best approach will be tailored to your body based on Dr. Barr’s assessment during consultation. In general, an incision is made at or slightly below the waist. The skin above the incision from the waist is extended down and any excess tissue is removed. The skin below the incision, above the buttocks is pulled up and any excess tissue is also removed. This helps to provide a smooth contour between the waist and the buttocks. After surgery, a dressing is applied to the surgical site and a compression garment may be provided in order to reduce swelling and assist in tightening the skin. A drain may be placed at the surgical site in order to remove any buildup of fluids.
Who will administer the anaesthetic?A board-certified anesthesiologist will administer your anaesthetic, stay with you during the entire operation, and will be there as you wake up.
Who can I contact if I have any questions or concerns?During office hours our Patient Coordinators and nursing staff are available to answer any questions or concerns following your surgery. After hours, Dr. Barr is available by pager.

Patients choosing to invest in their self-confidence and happiness through cosmetic surgery have many options available to make this investment more manageable. Our Patient Coordinators are familiar with various payment options and can facilitate the process for you.
