Buttock Lift

Many patients find that age, genetics, lack of exercise, and significant weight loss have an effect on the contours of their backside, causing it to appear less shapely. Many patients complain of a sagging or drooping buttocks, coupled with a dimpled appearance. Patients who have recently lost a large amount of weight may also notice excess skin on their waist line that affects the shape of their bottom. For many patients, a “butt lift” can help to lift their backside along with improving the contours of both the waist and buttocks.

What is a Buttock Lift?

A buttock lift is surgery on the butt which aims to remove loose skin in order to provide a lifted and more defined contour. Changes from buttock weight loss, aging, and genetics can significantly impact tissues elasticity, causing the skin to appear saggy and loose. A buttock lift procedure can address this concern.

Dr. Barr

Am I a Candidate for a Buttock Lift Procedure?

The ideal candidates for a buttock lift procedure are healthy patients who have realistic expectations of surgical outcomes. You may be a good candidate for a buttock lift if you have one or more of the following conditions:

  • loose, sagging skin with extra fat in your buttocks
  • recent dramatic weight loss
  • have been able to maintain a steady weight
  • your buttock area makes you feel self-conscious

How to Prepare for Butt Plastic Surgery

The first step when considering bum enhancement is to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Barr. The consultation process provides an opportunity for you to obtain important information about the procedure and to have all of your questions answered prior to proceeding with surgery. It also enables Dr. Barr to properly assess you and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for sagging buttocks surgery.

You should be prepared to discuss your medical history, including any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries, all current medications, as well as any significant weight gain or loss.

Buttock Lift

How is a buttock lift procedure performed?

A buttock lift is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anaesthesia. There are several techniques that may be used to achieve the look you desire. Whether you’re looking to address buttock weight loss or a “saggy bum” , surgery will be tailored to your body based on Dr. Barr’s assessment during consultation.

In general, an incision is made at or slightly below the waist. The skin above the incision from the waist is extended down and any excess tissue is removed. The tissue on the upper buttock is left in place as a in situ graft to create better projection and fullness in the upper buttocks. The skin below the incision is mobilized and pulled over the buttock graft. Once elevated, any excess skin is removed. This helps to provide a smooth contour between the waist and the buttocks. After surgery, a dressing is applied to the surgical site and a compression garment will be provided in order to reduce swelling and assist in tightening the skin. A drain will be placed at the surgical site in order to remove any unwanted fluid collections.

Recovery After Booty Surgery

Recovery after booty surgery is a crucial phase in your journey towards achieving your desired aesthetic goals. While the immediate post-operative period may involve discomfort and swelling, most individuals will notice a significant change in their buttock appearance right after the surgery. However, it’s essential to understand that the full extent of the results will gradually become visible as your body heals. During recovery, patients are typically advised to wear a compression garment under their clothing for a few weeks following the procedure. This garment helps minimize swelling and supports the treated area, aiding in the healing process. Additionally, it’s essential to follow the surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully, including any recommendations for medication, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments. Adhering to these guidelines and allowing your body adequate time to heal can optimize your recovery and enjoy the long-lasting benefits of your booty surgery.

What are the Benefits of a Buttock Lift Procedure

Buttock lift patients often pursue surgery in order to correct a number of issues including:

  • Eliminating sagging excess skin from buttocks
  • Tightening and contour the buttocks
  • Reshaping a disproportionate backside

Like the thousands of patients who undergo this procedure every year, you too can acquire the proportional measurements you’ve always wanted, and gain the confidence you deserve.

Why Сhoose Dr. Barr

When selecting a buttock/butt surgeon specialist, such as Dr.Barr, it is imperative to consider various factors to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome with your surgery.

  • Confirm that your prospective surgeon is a member of the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. This ensures that your surgeon has extensive experience and proper training required to perform cosmetic / aesthetic surgery.
  • Confirm with your provincial college of physicians and surgeons that your prospective surgeon is licensed and whether disciplinary action has been taken against him/her.
  • Confirm credentials and training. While many cosmetic surgeons advertise they are “board-certified ” requirements vary greatly depending on which professional board is cited. In Canada, only the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons certifies physicians and surgeons in medical specialties.
  • Just as important as verifying credentials and reviewing their work, you must meet and feel comfortable with the surgeon you have selected. Be thorough when discussing your expectations with your prospective surgeon. Proper communication before surgery is key to achieving the best possible surgical outcome.

Preparing for Your Buttock Lift Procedure

What is the first step in my buttock lift procedure?

The first step when considering buttock lift surgery is to schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Barr. The consultation process provides an opportunity for you to obtain important information about the procedure and to have all of your questions answered prior to proceeding with surgery.   It also enables Dr. Barr to properly assess you and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for buttock lift surgery.

You should be prepared to discuss your medical history, including any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries, all current medications, as well as any significant weight gain or loss.

During your consultation Dr. Barr will carefully examine your areas of concern and assess your general health. Different surgical approaches and options will be discussed and he will explain which surgical approach would be best suited to you based on your individual characteristics and aesthetic goals.

The benefits, risks and potential complications associated with buttock lift surgery will be thoroughly explained during this consultation. The information provided at this initial consultation will be comprehensive and thorough, and should enable you to make an informed decision as to whether or not a buttock lift procedure is the right choice for you. A comprehensive instruction package will be provided to you at the time of consultation, and includes instructions for both before and after surgery.

What is the difference between a Buttock Lift, a Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Enhancement?

Excess skin and fat in the gluteal region can be improved with a buttock lift. A buttock lift procedure involves removing excess skin and fat through surgical excision. This provides a more shapely contour to the backside. Rather than lifting and smoothing out the buttocks, the Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Enhancement procedures add volume to the buttocks. The Brazilian Butt Lift adds volume using fat transfer, while Buttock Enhancement usually provides volume using gluteal implants.

Can I combine another surgery with my buttock lift procedure?

It may be possible to schedule another surgery at the same time as your buttock lift procedure. Many patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight combine their buttock lift procedure with a waist reduction procedure, which will remove excess skin from the midsection, provide lift to the buttocks, and improve your body contours. You should be prepared to discuss all possibilities during your consultation with Dr. Barr.

The Procedure

What will I need to do prior to surgery?

Prior to surgery you will be scheduled for a pre-op session with a Registered Nurse to review your medical history and your post-op instructions. She will review all of the information you will need to know in order to prepare yourself for surgery.

Recovery

Buttock lift surgery is an outpatient procedure and does not require an overnight stay at Barr Plastic Surgery. Following your surgery, you will need a friend or family member to pick you up and care for you for 24-48 hours. This person should be familiar with your prescriptions and post-surgery instructions.

How long will it take me to recover from my buttock lift procedure?

Dr. Barr’s extensive experience in performing this procedure will help to ensure that your post-operative recovery is minimized. Once you awake from your surgery you will be discharged with a dressing in place, compression garments, and a surgical drain to remove fluid buildup.

You should rest and recover for two weeks post surgery, and should avoid any strenuous activity or heavy lifting for up to six weeks. Swelling and bruising usually subsides within several weeks. Full recovery may take up to a few months.

Your progress will be monitored by Dr. Barr and his medical team through a series of follow up visits. Your suggested activity level will be based on your recovery rate, which will be determined at each appointment.

Will I have scarring?

Dr. Barr takes every precaution to ensure your scarring is as minimal as possible. However, as with any surgery, there is a risk of scarring from the incisions. Once your incisions have healed there are products that can be used to minimize the redness in scars as well as improve the texture. Reusable silicone strips as well as medical grade topical scar creams are available for purchase that will help to reduce the discolouration found in new scars. Precautions that should be taken to minimize scarring will be discussed during consultation.
