Thread Lift
Patients often seek aesthetic changes to enhance their aesthetics or to rejuvenate their facial appearance and restore the aesthetics they enjoyed at an earlier time.
Younger women and men may want to enhance their cheek contour, lessen the nasolabial crease, create a more dramatic or youthful brow position and shape, or create a more aesthetic nasal shape and appearance.
Older women and men often want to restore a more youthful image or reverse the adverse changes in their facial appearance that have occurred from aging, weight changes, sun damage, smoking, hormone changes and time. With time, all men and women can experience the loss of a youthful cheek shape and a clean jaw line, the formation of folds and lines in the nasolabial fold and marionette area, lip lines, and loss of the brow shape and appearance associated with their younger years.
Requests to address these changes are very common and are expressed by men and women within a wide age range. However, some clients are not ready for surgery for various reasons or are not good surgical candidates. For this patient population, many aesthetic goals can be reached without surgery by incorporating “threads” into your treatment regimen. A Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure that is done under local anaesthesia. Using special threads and technique, this procedure can elevate facial skin and soft tissues, reposition and support cheeks, jowls and brows, and create an enhanced, rejuvenated and more youthful facial shape and form. Threads can also be used to correct some of the aging changes of the neck.

What are the Benefits of a Thread Lift Procedure?
Dr. Barr’s Thread Lift procedures are customized to create the aesthetic changes that are specific to your needs. Depending upon your age and aesthetic goals, a treatment plan will be formulated specifically for you.
While some patients may chose more invasive surgical procedures, many patients can achieve significant aesthetic improvements with the less invasive Thread Lift procedure.
Younger patients will seek threads for the following:
- Cheek enhancement
- Brow elevation / reshaping (Fox Brow)
- Correcting lower lid lines
- Lip border enhancement
- Nose reshaping / elevation
Patients with more facial aging will seek threads for the following:
- Elevation / correction of jowls
- Elevation and repositioning of the cheek
- Lessen the nasolabial creases
- Reduction of marionette lines
- Correct lower lid aging
- Create a more youthful facial appearance
By focusing on each patient’s unique facial characteristics, Dr. Barr creates a natural-looking, more youthful appearance by lifting and repositioning the sagging facial soft tissues.
What is a Thread Lift?
During a facial Thread Lift, threads are inserted just below the surface of the skin and physically elevate the skin to create an immediate aesthetic improvement. These threads are composed of the same material that has been used for more invasive surgical procedures for years. They are extremely safe and well tolerated.
After the threads have been placed, they stimulate the body to create collagen around them. Collagen is a normal “building” material found in our skin and all support tissues in our body. While the threads are slowly resorbed by the body over 6 to 9 months, the aesthetic improvement produced by the newly created collagen can last up to 18 months, providing a significant long term correction and anti-aging effect.

Am I a candidate for a thread lift procedure?
A Thread Lift can address most areas of the face such as the cheeks, jowls, neck, eyebrows, jaw line, under the eyes, around the nose, crow’s feet, and marionette lines. A Thread Lift can enhance the effect of neurotoxins and fillers, but cannot replace them. Some patients may require a combination of these treatment options in order to achieve their desired level of rejuvenation.

What to Expect During Your Thread Lift Procedure
The Thread Lift at Barr Plastic Surgery can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. A small amount of local anaesthetic is applied under the skin in the areas where the threads are to be inserted. This anaesthetic works very quickly and the procedure is very comfortable. As a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic medicine and aesthetic surgery, Dr. Barr is skilled at placing the threads to optimize your outcome. The threads are placed below the surface of the skin using a fine needle or cannula. Dr. Barr will determine the vectors required and expertly manipulate the threads in such a way to tighten, lift and reposition loose skin to create a natural looking, more youthful appearance. Once the threads are properly inserted, Dr. Barr will remove the needle or cannula. Some patients report a feeling of light pressure or tightening under their skin. As this is done under local anaesthesia only, you can drive to and from the clinic on your own.
Following your Thread Lift procedure, you can expect to have some bruising and swelling in the treated areas. Many patients note that their skin also feels tight. These symptoms may last up to 2-3 weeks following your procedure. Extra Strength Tylenol and gentle icing of the treated areas for approximately 2-3 days following your procedure can help minimize swelling, bruising and any associated discomfort. Some patients have noted some dimpling in their skin immediately following treatment. This is entirely normal and will resolve over the next 2-3 weeks.
You will be advised not to apply any firm pressure to your face for 3 weeks following your treatment. Strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, extreme sun exposure, dental appointments, and extreme facial expressions should also be avoided for 2 weeks after the insertion of your threads. These instructions will all be discussed in detail during your consultation.
